SELF-PORTRAIT
Neuroanatomy
This is an anatomical self-portrait with a midsagittal cross section of the brain and transverse cut of the skull illustrated in situ. The challenge of this illustration was in orienting the brain correctly in relation to the skull and external features of the head and face.

I chose to draw my self-portrait from a superior oblique view. The angle was a challenge, so to create these sketches, I took reference photos of my face and used a maquette to properly place the anatomy.
This was the maquette I used to position the brain and skull at the correct angle. I used the difference Boolean operation to make a transverse cut of the skull and hide the left hemisphere of the brain.
